Form Follows Function

After seventeen years in Downtown Port Huron, Alexander Fine Jewelers relocated to Fort Gratiot Township, Michigan in April 2010. Alexander Fine Jewelers established a new mission: “To become number one in the Tri-County area for diamond engagement rings”.

Our Challenge - To achieve simplicity, harmony and elegance between all facets of a new design solution, while integrating existing reconditioned Bailey, Banks & Biddle jewelry display cases into our overall design solution.

  • Lighting coves surround the entire space, utilizing T-8 cost-effective indirect fluorescent lamps. This setup delivers a consistent, diffused lighting atmosphere throughout the sales area, enhancing visibility while maintaining a comfortable and inviting environment.

  • Kurt Versen 4” square energy-efficient lighting fixtures are designed to enhance the visual appeal of jewelry showcases by precisely illuminating diamonds and other jewelry pieces. These fixtures bring out the intricate details and brilliance of each selection, especially when the items are removed from the showcase for a closer and more intimate viewing experience. Unlike many traditional lighting options used in jewelry stores, Kurt Versen fixtures operate without generating excessive heat, ensuring a comfortable environment for both customers and staff while protecting the delicate jewelry from potential heat damage. This combination of superior illumination and energy efficiency makes Kurt Versen fixtures an ideal choice for high-end retail settings.

  • The multi-dimensional drywall ceilings are suspended from the structure above with a USG drywall suspension system and metal studs. The ceilings reveal and simple and elegant design composition to enhance and draw attention to the jewelry cases below.

  • Jim Langolf, Owner of Alexander Fine Jewelers, oversees the sales floor, from a private office, composed of floor to ceiling clear glass.
